The New Exchange Programme:

KeMU and William Paterson University, USA

by Joy Buria

Kemu signs partnership

The Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with William Paterson University, a leading public University in New Jersey, USA. Under this arrangement, students, faculty and staff of the two Universities will benefit from course and program developments, research collaboration, access to library resources, staff/student exchange, and cross listing of courses. This collaboration, amongst many others in place, will ensure that KeMU’s diversity in academic programmes, teaching, and expertise is sustained. The Associate Principal, Jane Kimemia-Mugambi, who signed the MoU on behalf of KeMU in the United States of America a few weeks ago, emphasized on the importance of students, faculty and staff to embrace this kind of partnership as linkages that will boost relevance to their professional life, mobilize resources, enhance coconducting of research and co-authorship of publications. All these, she noted, will not only play a significant role in the sharing of experience among intellectuals, but also facilitate technological transfer. The Associate Principal also emphasized that such an exchange will facilitate a rich cultural exchange that will enhance the appreciation of global cultures. This exchange will be coordinated by Deans of individual faculties. Further enquiries on how to enroll for the exchange can be directed to Prof. Waiguchu Muruku, the Dean – Faculty ofBusiness and Management Studies, and Prof. Muroki Mwaura, the Associate Dean in the Visiting Professors Offices at KeMU Hub’s 5th Floor.

Matters of Constitution
and Commission

Matters of Constitution

As is common practice at KeMU to have student representatives in support of student learning and welfare, in January 2009, a twist to this custom was introduced. This involved the elected officials coming up with 12 constitutional commissioners, who would in turn deliver a student welfare onstitution. In line with this, the first group of commissioners has since been appointed by the Vice Chancellor, and received Terms of Reference from the Dean of Students. These commissioners have so far displayed diligence and sacrifice as they channel their efforts towards building a student-centered constitution to complete a first draft for students’ contributions, now available. Such contributions will also be possible online through the KeMU website, thanks to the ICT department. This is a great stride towards student-led affairs. The Student Welfare department also wishes to express ratitude to the University’s administration, the Vice Chancellor, the Associate Principal, Dean of Students, Administration Registrar, and all Student Welfare Staff for upholding an environment upon which a student commission has been made possible.

KeMU - Nyeri Campus Flourishes!

By Rimita Rukunga, CT, Nyeri Campus

As the Kenya Methodist University fraternity celebrates its 9th graduation on 25th July 2009, our Nyeri satellite Campus has reason to join other campuses in the fête. Only six years after inception, this campus has strategically positioned itself as an equal host of quality education and training, ttracting many students, particularly part-time students, thus enabling a competitive edge against veterans and new entrants in the education sector. Specifically, 24, 37, and 11 students will be graduating with MBAs, Undergraduate degrees and Diplomas respectively. Congratulations are in order to the graduating class! Bravo! To all other publics, Masters, Bachelors and Diploma programmes are available at this campus in the following areas of specialization: Business Administration, Computer Information Science, Business Information Technology, Library Information Science, Micro-Finance, Education and more. Potential students can also choose from either one of these modes of learning; Distance Learning, Full/Part time, and School-based. We are also proud to be home to such short courses as Computer applications, Desktop publishing, Web design and A+ among others. Our next intake comes in earnest in September, 2009. Register with us and join this fast growing educational institution in the region. We are situated in the heart of Nyeri town, Sohan Plaza Building. Owing to this success, we feel indebted to all the stake holders, parents, staff members, our sister campuses and the KeMU Management team for their continued support to see Nyeri campus flourish! Thank you indeed.

Bringing Out The Best In You

by Janerose Kibaara
–Lecturer, Education Department

Bringing out the best in youOur society is bedeviled by a myriad of problems. Most of the issues are attributed to poor leadership or lack of it altogether. Just as our motto states, “the future is here”, KeMU is committed to bringing out the best in you either as our student or as a member of staff, and even to the larger society through our interaction with you. KeMU is destined to bridge the gap in leadership by producing the best leaders through holistic training for our students during their study here. We hope to bring out the best in you such that when all is done, our students, who are destined to be great leaders will say: “We did it ourselves.” After all, we are all leaders in our own ways, regardless of our social, religious, political and national affiliations.
However, we must acknowledge our potential and work towards realizing our dreams. An effective leader therefore: l Challenges the status quo by inspiring vision of “what could be” and enlisting others by appealing to their values, hopes and dreams.  Empowers and unleashes others through inspiring, equipping and motivating them to be productive and fulfilled through meaningful expression of their giftedness and passion.  Empowers people and lets them be the best they can be, and then releases them to the world.  Coordinates and blends combined efforts in a positive, productive manner, which will result in fulfillment of organizational vision and mission. t is therefore our hope and prayer that we will all take up the challenge of becoming effective leaders, willing to go the extra mile in bridging the leadership gaps in our society today.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
