Brief Overview:

Welcome to The Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), the very first school of medicine in a private university in Kenya to be accredited, admit, train and graduate medical doctors. The school admitted the first cohort of medical students in 2011 and they completed their training in 2017.

At KeMU we believe good health is wealth to individuals, communities and nations, in-keeping with the dreams of our founders and the vision and mission of the university. The SMHS was established in 2004 with the Department of Nursing and continues to exponentially grow in departments, programmes, student and faculty numbers. Currently the school consists of 16 departments and over 2000 students. The key mission of the school is to train highly skilled personnel to contribute to the national and international community of health workforce and professionals in all cadres spanning from medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, clinical officers, public health officers, laboratory scientists, nutritionists and health systems administrators.

Modes of Study:

The school offers programmes with flexible modes of study. You can study either face to face (full time) or online (distance learning) and blending of the two study modes of study. The face to face courses are mainly those with laboratory and clinical training, and the intake in only in September each year, and the distance learning courses start each January, May, and September of the year, hence as a student you can start your studies at a time that is suitable for you.

Collaborations:

To support the school we have established linkages and collaborations with local, national and international institutions in the public and private sectors including Meru Teaching and Referral Hospital, Chuka County Hospital, Nanyuki County Hospital), Catholic Diocese of Meru, Maua Methodist Hospital, Stony Brook University, University of Michigan and AMREF.
