Position Announcement: VICE-CHANCELLOR.

Kenya Methodist University (KeMU) is a chartered private Christian University and its
vision is to be a world class University raising a generation of professionals and
transformational leaders. The main Campus is in Meru and other Campuses in Nairobi and
Mombasa
Kenya Methodist University is seeking to appoint an eminent individual with an earned
Doctorate degree or equivalent qualification and an outstanding track record in academic
and business leadership for the position of the Vice-Chancellor

Requirements:
For appointment to the position of the Vice-Chancellor, a person will:
i. Be a practicing Christian with a commitment to KeMU philosophy, vision and
values;
ii. Mature evangelical Christian with a sterling above reproach reputation of integrity,
known for adherence to Biblical principles and has evidence of faithful involvement in the
local Church;
iii. Should be an excellent team leader with capacity to identifying and managing
internal and external stakeholders while mobilizing and leading effective teams;
iv. Be a holder of an earned doctorate degree or equivalent qualification from a
recognized University;
v. Have thorough knowledge in the structural, legislative and regulatory framework
for administering University education in Kenya;
vi. Have at least ten (10) years hands-on experience at a senior level of management
in a University or equivalent institution with demonstrable leadership, and
management capacity including knowledge of financial and strategic human capital
management; Familiarity with the operations of a private University is an added
advantage;
vii. Be an accomplished scholar with proven track record and demonstrated evidence
in formulating and managing academic programmes, supervising and mentoring
masters and PhD students; Having served as a Deputy Vice Chancellor is an added
advantage;
viii. Have a proven track record of research as evidenced by publications in peer
reviewed journals, monographs and books;
ix. Have demonstrable experience in networking, resource mobilization and project
management;
x. Have a demonstrable experience in transformative and strategic leadership; and
xi. Meet the leadership and integrity standards set out in Chapter Six of the
Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Subject to the provision of Kenya Methodist University Charter and Statutes, the terms and
conditions of appointment of the Vice- Chancellor shall be as set in Article 16 of the
Charter.
i. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chief Executive and Accounting Officer of the
University
ii. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the official representative and spokesman of the
University
iii. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the secretary of the University Council
iv. The Vice-Chancellor shall be the Chairman of the Senate
v. The Vice-Chancellor shall be responsible for policy matters, planning, coordinating,
corporate relations, security, fundraising and institutional development of the
University
vi. The Vice-Chancellor shall recommend to the Council the appointment of Senior
staff of the University
vii. The Vice-Chancellor shall appoint the Chairs of Academic Departments
The Vice-Chancellor may assign or delegate any of his duties to a committee or to a
member of the University staff and may withdraw any such assignment or delegation at
any time.
Appointment: As per the Universities Act and Kenya Methodist University Charter and
Statutes, the Vice-Chancellor shall hold office for a duration of five (5) years with the
possibility of renewal for a further final term of five (5) years subject to positive appraisal
by Council.

iv. Clearance certificate from Credit Reference Bureau.
v. Certificate of Good Conduct from Criminal Investigation Department.
vi. Letters of recommendation (in sealed envelopes) from three people familiar with
the applicant’s professional experience and general character one of whom must be the
pastor of their local church.
